Every now and then, we get letters from those for whom it works. Such as this one from not long ago:

We've really been meaning to write to you, honest we have. We've
been putting this letter off for a while; but have prolonged it long
enough. Here's the condensed version of our story:
April 4, 1996: Tired of the usual dating routine and bar
scenes, Mike accesses Joe's Main Links Page and places what he considers
a very honest and open ad (#XXXXXX) on the Internet Personals Page.
April 9, 1996: Ann decides to try her own ad (#XXXXXX) on the
Internet Personals Page. After she is done, she comes across Mike's ad,
decides that it is different from the usual "pick up ads", and responds
to it. Mike responds that same day and quite a few EMail messages are
exchanged.
April 11, 1996: After numerous EMail messages over the last
several days, it is obvious that Mike & Ann share many interests and
expectations. They exchange phone numbers and talk to each other that
night. They hit it off very well and the phone conversation lasts an
hour and a half. At the end of the conversation, they decide to meet
that Saturday.
April 13, 1996: The first date. What at first showed through
EMail and then became more solid through a phone conversation is
confirmed -- There is a chemistry in the works here. An additional date
is planned for the following week.
June 1, 1996: EMail messages and phone calls were being
exchanged on a daily basis, with actual dates occurring almost as often.
Each had already decided to exclusively date the other. Then, at Ann's
birthday party with family & friends present, with what started as a
private conversation, Mike asks Ann to marry him, and Ann accepts.
September 14, 1996: Mike & Ann are married on a roller coaster
(Rolling Thunder) at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ. They go
for a honeymoon in Las Vegas, NV a week later.
MIKE: I originally posted an ad on the Internet to make friends
and to look for someone to do things with (...as I stated in my ad) -- I
did not want to spend the summer doing the usual dating routine
(...especially the bar scenes) or sitting at home alone on weekends.
The last thing I expected was to find a wife, and certainly not as quick
as things happened. However, Ann & I seemed to be immediately attracted
to each other, and it was obvious that there was a definite chemistry at
work and that this relationship was something truly special. I have
never been this happy with anyone in my entire life. And, as I wrote in
our wedding vows, I have found my perfect match, my soul mate, that
special someone who will be in my life forever. Thank You....
ANN: The last thing I ever expected was to find "LOVE on the
Internet", but it happened. I had decided that when my perfect match
comes along I'll know. Well, one day while looking at some ads on your
web page, I found Mike's. It was honest and straight forward, something
you don't find very often with personal ads, it attracted me so I wrote
and "BOOM!" we hit it off right from the start. People say that when
you find your true love, you'll know. They are right. I have never
been happier in my life and I know I have found my one true love. Thank
you....
From: "Berta XXXXX" To: webmaster@montagar.com Subject: Found My Partner! I just wanted to write and let you know about my success using the internet personal ads. I placed an ad in August, 1997. I received several responses back, however, on August 10, I received one that caught my eye. I wrote back to Bill. So Bill called me on a Sunday and we talked for quite a while. That night, he called again and we talked for 5 hours. Thereafter, we talked 3-5 nights a week. On Labor Day weekend, Bill drove 8 hours to meet me. When he arrived, he brought me a dozel of white roses (because he couldn't find yellow my favorite). We spent the whole weekend getting to know each other and just doing a lot of things together. Bill is the type of man that I have looked for all my life. I was previously married for 17 years. Bill and I since Labor Day weekend have talked every night. Then we met half way the middle of September for a weekend. And, of course, have talked every night since then. I started a new job the Tuesday after Labor Day and on Wednesday, received at work a dozen of yellow roses. Bill is a wonderful person, caring, loving, understanding, compassionate, and has a world of patience. He is now looking for a job in the area where I live with my daughter and hopes to relocate shortly. If things continue the way they are now, by this time next year, Bill and I will hopefully be married and looking forward to spending the rest of our lives together.

I put an ad in about 2 weeks prior to that and within a week had gotten the response from someone who sounded like a perfect match. We decided to meet in a public place. He got there before I did, & as I was walking toward the restaurant he was walking out to see if I was waiting outside. When our paths crossed we stopped dead in our tracks. Our eyes met & we literally stared into eachothers eyes for almost a full minute before a word was said. The rest of the night was not silent. You would of thought we had known each other for years. Conversation was good & I was more comfortable with him than someone I was with for a year & a half previously. It's now a month later & the love & passion gets stronger every day. We have a plan for the future & the names of our children selected. I never believed in love @ first sight until my eyes met his baby blues. I've never been happier. I always thought people who entered those ads had to be psycho or desperate, but I was proven wrong when I took that chance. Turns out that was the best chance I could have taken. Yours truly, D&K
